Masks for Moisture

The colder months can wreak havoc on our skin. The dry air forces skin into defense mode, often leaving it flaky and rough. Our faces especially get the brunt of the battle through sun and wind exposure. With Spring around the corner, preparing our skin for the warmer months starts now! We've compiled 3 DIY moisturizing face masks that you can create with items you may already have in the pantry.

The Deep Conditioner

We deep condition our skin for the same reason as our hair: to enrich and hold moisture. This mask works almost instantly and is literally delicious.

2 Tablespoons Honey

1/3 Banana

1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon

  1. Wash, cut and blend or mix banana to liquified consistency
  2. Add honey and mix well
  3. Sprinkle in cinnamon
  4. Lightly apply to face, neck and décolleté and keep on for 15-20 minutes
  5. Rinse throughly with warm water
  6. Let the water absorb into your pores
  7. Use a moisturizer with SPF during the day or a restoring serum at night

The Enricher

This dual-function mask leaves your skin refreshed with its exfoliating and moisturizing properties. It takes 5 minutes and can be applied and rinsed during a shower.

2 Tablespoons Plain Greek Yogurt

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

  1. Whisk yogurt and baking soda
  2. Gently massage onto face and neck in a small circular motion
  3. Rinse thoroughly after 5 minutes. Your face should feel squeaky clean; if not there may still be baking soda residue. Use the same circular motion to remove the rest of the mask.
  4. Allow water to absorb into pores
  5. Use a moisturizer with SPF during the day or a restoring serum at night

The Brightener

This mask leaves your skin feeling cool and refreshed, the perfect prep for fun in the sun.

2 Tablespoons Aloe Vera Gel (preferably from leaf)

1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice

1/2 Teaspoon Tumeric

  1. Wash and cut lemon in half
  2. Juice it through a strainer
  3. Add tumeric, lightly mix
  4. Extract or squeeze aloe vera gel into mixture and mix well
  5. Apply to face, neck and décolleté; leave on for 15-20 minutes
  6. Rinse thoroughly, let water dry on face
  7. Use a moisturizer with SPF during the day or a restoring serum in the evening

One last note: Once applied, sometimes the Deep Conditioner and the Brightener masks will slide. To minimize this, try sitting or lying down.
