Hot Oil Treatment

Hot oil treatments are an ancient restorative hair therapy that have multiple benefits for our hair and scalp. The properties of many oils nourish the hair, making it look and feel stronger. Coconut oil, for example, is rich in nutrients including vitamin E, which helps protect hair against breakage, split ends and dryness. For today’s #50forMe Challenge, we’re giving ourselves a hot oil treatment.

Benefits

Exposure to the elements, product build-up, processing and styling our hair can take a toll. Rather than sacrificing the coif, it’s essential to show our hair and scalp a little extra TLC each month. A hot oil treatment can provide this with several perks.

Fights split ends

Split ends are a result of environmental factors like sun and wind damage or cosmetic factors such as brushing wet hair or excessive blow drying. Hot oil treatments help seal the hair strand from root to end.

Cleans hair and scalp

Oils such as coconut and tea tree have powerful anti-fungal and anti-bacterial traits that rid the scalp of dandruff, aid in treating scalp conditions including psoriasis, and strip the hair of product build-up.

Locks in moisture

Although it is  a myth that oils moisturize our skin and hair—only water can hydrate—hot oil treatments open the pores to help absorb water.

Strengthening + shining

Hot oil treatments coat the hair in nutrients while adding a shine that can last for days.
